More than fifty years ago, a group of interesting and educated women became weary of
organizing bake sales and bazaars to raise money for worthy church causes. They
decided, instead, to buy the stock of a bookstore that was closing on Front Street, and
set up shop in the crypt of St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral. Though it has since moved
from that location, The Episcopal Bookshop carries on the work they began–to provide
and encourage a wide-range of spiritual reading to clergy and lay people from many
different churches and denominations in our region, and, in so doing, to bring people
together.

This web-site is designed to extend that work. It offers book reviews and shares
recommendations about books and gifts from a wide-range of customers and friends,
and provides you an opportunity to make recommendations of your own. It lifts up books
you might not know about or perhaps would be surprised to find in a “religious
bookshop,” and it keeps you posted about our monthly book club gatherings with local
authors. Because spiritual reading is much more than Bibles, commentaries, and
prayer books, we are always working hard to develop our collection of fiction, poetry, and
other books off the beaten path. We are also serious about offering titles that encourage
learning about different faiths.

All of us are committed to giving you the best, most personal service possible. If we do
not have what you request, we will do all we can to get it for you, promptly. If you need
help, simply phone or e-mail us. Better yet, come in and visit.
We are open Monday
through Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. , Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
