| BOOK CLUB Each month the Bookshop selects a different book to read and review. Then, at 12:15 on the last Wednesday of the month, we meet in person at the Bookshop to discuss that book. We have been most fortunate to have local authors leading these discussions. Everyone is invited to share his/her impressions, and notes are taken and circulated. Presently, we have a lively and interesting group of regulars. We hope you can join us. SPRING LINE UP During the Spring season the Episcopal Bookshop invites you to come and participate in a new way of listening. On the last Wednesday of each month, February 27 and March 26, members of the cast of Voices of the South will be at the bookshop to read-out-loud several stories from Phyllis Tickle’s beautiful Lent and Easter book, Wisdom in the Waiting. One of the stories is “Swallowtails,” a poetic account from everyday life on the farm in Lucy. After reading the story out loud in February, they will begin the staging process in March. You can be privy to that process. Voices of the South, a local theater company, has been working in Memphis for the past ten years. Members are devoted to bringing to life the written word not just in the theater, but in service throughout the community. Then,on April 30, (now) local author, Janet Baker-Carr will be here to discuss here lovely collection of stories, An Extravagance of Donkeys. Ms. Baker-Carr has a beautiful voice and is a natural performer. Just to hear her read her stories is a great treat. But come to discuss them with her, too! Local architect/author, Jim Williamson will be with us on Wednesday, May 21 to discuss his new novel, The Architect. The book is a mystery set in Memphis. Amidst all the intrigue, he shares insight-- drawn from extensive first- hand experience-- into the planning and building of churches. An interesting topic for further discussion. Bring a sack lunch if you’d like. We’ll supply the coffee and soft drinks. |
